Historic House’s autumn planting initiative supported by local groups.
16 October 2022
We’ve really enjoyed welcoming Dementia Friendly Walks For All to the hall recently. Their help has been invaluable in our gardens and woodland.
Full Story
Every year, in October, we need to plant thousands of snowdrop bulbs and we rely on volunteers to augment our team here at Leighton. The local Dementia Friendly group have been flexing their green fingers and got busy planting the bulbs over a couple of different morning and afternoon sessions. It’s been no mean feat! We had over 10,000 delivered and they all need to go in, so any help is gratefully received! The dementia group planted an amazing 1,500 and many others were planted in other sessions by members of the Tandem Bank and Leighton staff. We opened up the tea rooms and our other seating areas so the groups could get some well deserved rest and refreshments. Dementia Friendly Walks For All are coming back next week too and having them with us is always a pleasure.
Who are Dementia Friendly Walks For All?
The Arnside and Silverdale AONB launched a pilot project in 2019 to create an all-inclusive and all-welcoming group for anyone whose lives have been affected by dementia, with activities and regular get-togethers, and in the last three years the group has gone from strength to strength. They offer a weekly programme of short guided walks for people living with dementia and their carers, offering them the opportunity to be able to continue to enjoy our beautiful local landscapes, wildlife and culture and to benefit from the support of walking with others. The group is open to anyone and Leighton Hall are proud to support them.
